How do I use two-factor authentication for WHM and cPanel?
Normally you log in with a username and password. You don't need more. With two-factor authentication, your account is extra protected with an additional code. This code is generated by an app as Google Authenticator. By enabling two-factor authentication, the risk of malicious user access to your account is very small.
Important
To use two-factor authentication, you will need one of the following free apps:
- Google Authenticator (iOS and Android)
- Authenticator (Windows Phone)
Other verification apps are of course allowed, but use of other apps is at your own discretion.
cPanel
Step 1. Log in to cPanel.
Step 2. Under the Security category, click Duplicate Verification.
Step 3. Click Set up two-way verification. You are now seeing a QR code. Scan this code with the app you are using (Google Authenticator or Authenticator).
Step 4. The cPanel account has now been added to the app. You'll see a 6 digit code in the app. These enter the second step. Then click on Configure Duplicate Verification. Two-factor authentication is now set.
WHM
Step 1. Log in to WHM.
Step 2. In the left menu, click on Two-Factor Authentication and click the Manage My Account tab.
Step 3. Click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication and scan the QR code.
Step 4. The WHM account is now added to the app. Just like with cPanel, you'll see a 6-digit code in the app. You need to enter these at the second step. Then click on Configure Two-Factor Authentication. Two-factor authentication is now set.
